The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for the upcoming season was held in Kochi last week and the franchises spent a lot of money on all-rounders. The 24-year-old Sam Curran became the costliest player in the tournament’s history as he was bought by the Punjab Kings for a huge amount. 18.5 crores. He was followed by Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, who was bought by Mumbai Indians 17.5 crores.
Other names, who fetched big bucks during the auction, were Ben Stokes (16.25 cr), Nicholas Pooran (16 cr), and Harry Brook (13.25 cr).
However, there were a few big guns that went unsold and one of the unfortunate ones was Punjab fast bowler Sandeep Sharma. Sandeep, who has previously represented Kings XI Punjab, now Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, found no takers despite being listed 50 lakh as the base price.

Sharing his thoughts on this, Sandeep failed to understand how he went unsold during the auction. in conversation with cricket.comHe also highlighted his recent performances in the domestic circuit.
“I’m shocked and disappointed. I don’t know why I went unsold. I did well for every team I played for and really thought some team would bid for me. To be honest, I didn’t expect it. Sandeep’s record in IPL is nothing short of impressive. Sandeep has so far taken a total of 114 wickets in 104 matches played in IPL with an economy of 7.77.
If we look at Sandeep’s past record, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the only bowler who has more powerplay wickets than the former. He was the only bowler to take more than 12 wickets in each edition between 2014 and 2020.
He also holds the record for dismissing talismanic batsman Virat Kohli most times in IPL. Sandeep has wrapped up Kohli’s innings on seven occasions.
