The Indian cricket team ended the second day of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chattogram in a comfortable position on Thursday. The hosts reached 133/8 at stumps on the second day in reply to India’s first innings total of 404. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav took 4/33 while fast bowler Mohammad Siraj took 3/14. There were also some sparring incidents, one of which saw Siraj and Bangladesh’s Liton Das making headlines. It happened in the 14th over of Bangladesh’s innings during the final session of the day.

Liton Das was on 24 and till then he had not scored a single run in the third session. After bowling the first ball of the 14th over, Siraj went up to Liton and told him something. To Siraj’s sniping, Das cheekily indicated that he didn’t hear anything as he walked towards the India pacer. Umpire intervenes to send Siraj away. In the very next ball, Siraj bowled Das with a delivery that came back. The pacer celebrated with gusto and Virat Kohli too joined in with a cheeky gesture similar to Liton’s.

Earlier, India were all out in the second session after adding 126 runs to their overnight 278-6, with Bangladeshi off-spinner Mehdi taking 4-112 and left-arm spinner Taijul 4-133.

Cheteshwar Pujara’s 90 and Shreyas Iyer’s 86 were followed by Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s third half-century of the innings, 58 to fend off the Bangladesh attack.

Ashwin got invaluable support from Kuldeep Yadav (40) as the duo put on 92 runs for the eighth wicket. Iyer resumed on 82 but missed out on a century as he was bowled by Abadot in the eighth over of the morning.
