Suryakumar Yadav scored an 80-ball 90 in his first Ranji Trophy game in nearly three years, while skipper Ajinkya Rahane and Yashasvi Jaiswal hit brilliant hundreds to bundle out Mumbai for 457 for three against Hyderabad on the opening day of their Group B contest. .
Yadav, who has arguably been the best batsman in white-ball cricket over the last 12 months, took to the red-ball game with the same aggressive intent he is known for in the shorter formats. His innings included 15 fours and a six.
The stylish batsman has repeatedly expressed his desire to play Test cricket for India. He last played a first-class match in February 2020.
Jaiswal scored a brilliant 162 off 195 balls while Rahane was batting on 139 at stumps.
Prithvi Shaw was dismissed for 19 after taking the field at Hyderabad’s BKC ground.
Shorey hits 8th first-class century to lead Delhi’s recovery
Opener Dhruv Shorey scored his eighth first-class century as Delhi were restricted to 271 for seven against Assam on the opening day of the match.
Assam removed Shorey’s partner Anuj Rawat early after fielding first.
Shorey remained unbeaten on 139 off 216 balls before bad light forced him to bowl 81 overs at opening stumps.
Delhi’s young captain Yash Dhull scored 22 runs in 56 balls, while Vaibhav Raval scored 43 runs in 71 balls. Senior batsman Nitish Rana got out on the very first ball.
Delhi, who lost their tournament opener to Maharashtra, fielded a depleted unit in the absence of injured pacers Ishant Sharma and Mayank Yadav. They were forced to field three debutants in Harshit Rana, Pranshu Vijayaran and spinner Ritik Shokeen.
Senior fast bowler Navdeep Saini, who suffered an abdominal strain while being part of the Indian team in Bangladesh, is unlikely to be fit in time for Delhi’s next match.
