Indian cricket team’s wicketkeeper and batsman Rishabh Pant’s car met with an accident after hitting the divider near Mangalore police station in Roorkee on Friday morning. Pant has suffered leg and head injuries and is being taken to a private hospital in Dehradun for treatment.
Senior Superintendent of Police Haridwar Mr. Ajay Singh told Hindu Pant was driving a Mercedes Benz car, which hit the divider and caught fire. The accident happened around 5.30 in the morning.
“It was a miraculous escape as he managed to get out of the car on his own as the window panes of the vehicle were shattered after hitting the divider. Some passers-by caught hold of him and the police reached the spot,” said the SSP.
The car caught fire minutes after the accident, the official said.
“Initially he was taken to a hospital in Roorkee for first aid. He is being taken to a hospital in Dehradun,” said a release from the chief minister’s office.
Police sources said that the speed of Pant’s car was very high when it hit the divider, while some say that the accident happened due to dense fog on the highway. He was traveling alone. He was going from Delhi to his home in Roorkee.
