Kelly Ripa Shares the Fascinating Stories Behind Her Children's Names

Kelly Ripa, the beloved host of "Live With Kelly and Ryan," has always been open about her family life on the show.

She's shared stories about her pregnancies, her husband's good looks, and her children's antics.

Recently, Ripa revealed the hidden meanings behind her children's names, and it's quite interesting.

First up is Michael, Ripa's oldest son. Interestingly, he was not supposed to be named Michael.

Ripa and her husband, Mark Consuelos, had agreed to name their firstborn son Joaquin.

However, right before Michael was born, both of Consuelos's grandfathers passed away.

They never got the chance to meet Michael, so Ripa and Consuelos decided to name him after both of their grandfathers.

Next is Lola, Ripa's only daughter. Ripa has been known to embarrass Lola with her stories and comments, but the story of how Lola was named is quite sweet.

Ripa and Consuelos were in a taxi on the way to the hospital while she was in labor when Barry Manilow's "Copacabana" came on the radio.

They heard him sing the line, "Her name was Lola," and decided then and there that if their baby was a girl, her name would be Lola.

Last but not least is Joaquin, Ripa's youngest child. When he left home for college, Ripa and Consuelos became empty nesters.

Dropping him off was "actually brutally painful" for Ripa. Interestingly, they didn't even have a name picked out for Joaquin when he was born.

They remembered that Joaquin was originally set for older brother Michael, so they decided to use it for their youngest son.

Consuelos even joked that his full name should be "Joaquin... quin...quin ... Consuelos ...suelos ... suelos."

However, despite his name, Joaquin has never played in a baseball game.

Overall, it's clear that Ripa and Consuelos put a lot of thought into their children's names and each name has a unique story behind it.
