Pakistan lost their second consecutive Test match by 26 runs to England in Multan on Monday. England won the first Test in Rawalpindi by 74 runs, on their first Test tour of Pakistan in 17 years. The defeat comes at a time when there is a lot of confusion regarding Pakistan’s stand on the 2023 Asia Cup. In October, BCCI secretary Jay Shah indicated that the 2023 Asia Cup in Pakistan could be held at a neutral venue. Following Shah’s comment of holding the Asia Cup at a neutral venue, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued a statement that it may affect Pakistan’s visit to India for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

The PCB had then said, “The overall effect of such statements has the potential to divide the Asian and international cricket communities and may affect Pakistan’s visit to India for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and future ICC events in India.” ” ,

Against this backdrop, two Pakistan fans had a unique message for former India skipper Virat Kohli during the Multan Test. During the match he held placards that read: “Hi! King Kohli come and play the Asia Cup. We will love you more than our king Babar.”

Earlier, after PCB’s statement, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur had said that India will host the 2023 World Cup with all the teams. “It is an internal matter of BCCI and it will handle the issue smartly. We have not done anything wrong so far by hosting international tournaments earlier. We have successfully hosted the first World Cup and all the teams participated happily. We will host the tournament next year and all the teams will play in it,” Thakur had said in October.

BCCI President Roger Binny also said that it is not the board’s decision to tour Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023, but they will rely on the government’s decision.

“It’s not our call. We can’t say where our team has to go. If we leave the country or other countries come here, we have to take approval from the government. We can’t take that decision on our own, we have to Gotta trust.” on the government,” Binny had said.
