Kishan scored the fastest double century in ODI history after getting a lucky break in the absence of an injured Rohit Sharma. Opening the innings, Ishan scored 210 runs from just 131 balls in India’s massive 227-run win over Bangladesh.
While not focusing on the batting position, Ishan said that he was focusing on the opportunities given and wanted his batting to do the talking for him.
Kishan said, “I don’t think the batting position is fixed in this team. Many big players are playing in different positions. It is about the performance and I cannot complain that I want to bat in this position.” ”
“It is an opportunity if you need to score big because you will only get one or two games to show your potential. That is how a big player comes out, he grabs the opportunity that comes his way. ”
However, things could change when India next play Sri Lanka in January as Rohit is expected to be fit, Shikhar Dhawan will not be dropped and Shubman Gill will also be back in the mix.
Kishan doesn’t care whether he will get a chance to play in January or not.
“I don’t think about whether I will play the next match or not. My job is to give my best whenever I get a chance. I don’t talk much, I just want my bat to do the talking.” Rahul Dravid was also very happy with his ward’s performance and Kishan, in fact, got a hug from the head coach.
“He (Dravid) was very happy because he knew that a player just needs one chance.”
When it comes to commitment, Kishan looks up to Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya.
“When I see Virat bhai or Hardik bhai, I just try to see their commitment and give their 100 per cent just like they do. It’s not like we are playing a league match. We are playing for our country. My focus is always. To give my 100 per cent and not have any regrets after the match.”
Sharing the 290-run partnership with Kohli was a learning experience.
He said, ‘I am happy that I got a chance to bat with him (Kohli) but it was not in my mind at that time. I got to learn a lot while batting with him. Since it was Virat bhai, I was trying. Talk to him as much as possible so that I can learn. I look forward to many more partnerships with him.”
