Team India put up a strong performance in the first Test of the series against Bangladesh, defeating the hosts by 188 runs in Chattogram. India dismissed Bangladesh for 324 in the second innings as the visitors set a mammoth target of 513 in the opening Test; The hosts made a decent comeback, batting throughout Day 4, but were defeated in the end. India, on the other hand, enjoyed solid performances with both bat and ball.

While Cheteshwar Pujara scored 90 and 102* in both innings of the Test, it was Shubman Gill who finally broke the deadlock with his maiden century in the longest format of the game. Gill scored an aggressive 110 in the second innings as India declared on a strong score of 258/2 on the third day of the Test.

Gill was part of the playing XI in the opening Test due to an injury to skipper Rohit Sharma, and the former’s participation in the next match in Dhaka, thus far, remains doubtful. However, former India batsman Mohammad Kaif believes that keeping Gill out of the XI would be difficult if he continues to put in strong performances in the first Test.

He said, “It is a difficult decision because of the template they are following in Test cricket. They are playing with five bowlers. If you were playing four bowlers, you could have accommodated them. It will be difficult to fit in. They may have to wait.” If Rohit Sharma comes back,” said Kaif Sony Sports Network.

“He has the form. If I am Shubman Gill at the moment, I will not think whether I will be selected or not, I have done my job. Nothing can stop him from becoming an all-format player.”

Speaking further on the same, Kaif hinted that India could make room for Gill even if it means replacing one of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer.

“Shubman Gill has the technique, the scoring runs, and the hunger. He scored in the IPL and won the Gujarat Titans title, scored hundreds in ODIs and Test cricket, so he has a great 2022.”

“You won’t be able to hold such a player for long, whether you have to drop KL Rahul or Shreyas Iyer for him, places will be made. He is looking better and better whenever he is given a chance. Test match three days later Yes, even Rohit Sharma might not come,” Kaif said.
